Jazz at the Opera introduces Freddy Cole at the National Theatre.

At 7 pm on the 12th of June 2012, American jazz singer Freddy Cole will perform with his quartet at another concert in the Jazz at the Opera series. Once again, the suggestive atmosphere of the National Theatre will complement an extraordinary musical experience. The event is held under the auspices of the American Embassy in Prague.

A Grammy-nominated artist, he has also received prizes such as Outstanding Male Jazz Vocalist and he has been inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame as well as the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame with a 2005 Living Legend Award (Playbill 2009 Nightlife Awards).

Elegant, polite, impressive and articulate are all adjectives often used to describe Mr. Cole's voice, which is among the most respected in jazz and is often compared to Frank Sinatra or Billie Holiday.

He plays the vocal part of his older brother in the film Chico and Rita, which received a variety of awards as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Film.

Lionel Frederick Cole was born in Chicago, in a musical family, the youngest of five children. Billy Eckstein, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Lionel Hampton often paid a visit, and their presence had a big influence on him. Later, he moved to New York where he kick started his career, playing in clubs around Manhattan, creating a large repertory and later performing on both radio and television.

His quartet regularly tours in the USA, Europe, the Far East and South America.

Let yourself be charmed by this charismatic performer. Freddy Cole possesses a rare spark, which never fails to pass from his suggestive interpretations to the hearts of all listeners, not just jazz aficionados.

Tickets are available at the National Theatre's box office or at selected Ticket providers throughout Prague.
